First things first I had my septum done a little under a year ago.and I have since streched it to a 10 gauge. i have to say the streching is my favorite part.I plane on going down to a 2 or something like that.

As a boy growing up in a fairly strict house I was never allowed to have any piercings or even grow my hair long.Being the rebel that I am as soon as i moved out a 16 I got my first piercing it was my labret.

Ive never felt anything like it.It was a total rush kind of like an orgasam but not as intense. After that I was off nothing could stop me I was on a mission to get as many holes in my body as possible.

Although ive never had any trouble with migrating or anything of that nature my bridge just got pierced like two months ago and I think I might be developing a keloid.Well anyway back to the main story.I had been seriously considering my septum for about a month before I worked up the nut to go do it.

I had just got out of my weekly N.A. meeting and had about a half hour before my ride was going to be there. So i thought I would go check out the nearest tatoo shop down the street it was called the vibes.I had heard realy good things about the tatoo artists but not so much about the piercing.

So at first I was sceptacle but I am always open minded so I thought I would at least go in and talk to the people inside.So in I went through the front door and up the stairs.The first person I talked to was the piercer himself.

I asked how much for a septum? he said forty bucks I looked at him with disapointment in my eyes and said man i only have 30 and that was all it took. he was going to do it for thirty bucks. sudden waves of relief came over me and i was ready.he then said all i need you to do is sign the release papers or whatever they were.

And photo copy my I.D. by this time I looked over and my ride had found me. It must have been the constint talk about it on the ride to brunswick.Alot of people say that the clamps are the worst that may be true for some but not for me not for my septum.The needle was the worst part for sure.

The guy said take a deep breath in and there it was the sweetest feeling ive ever felt my septum was by far the best yet.But I have not had my penis pierced yet either!People say that is the best.

the person who was with me said I had some tears but that is normal for septums.After that was over I sat there and talked to the piercer for a while about aftercare and such.But since i had already had so many I knew how my body was going to heal.Everyone is different so take advise when you can get it but there is no advise like experience.

So for all you out there that are thinking about the septum as your next mod I say go for it and trust your self. If the shop feels right stick with it. you will be shocked at how much a good shop and good people help the hole process.A little piercing humor there. so bye for now and keep on piercing its good for the soul.

Well first off yes it did hurt it hurt like a bastard they stuck a 14 gauge needle through my nose I mean come on people how stupid can you be? Second I chose to do this to my face because I feel that my body is a canvase and I should be allowed to express myself any way I see fit. and third and most of all you can get retainers so it does not even look like you have a it in.

Ben gets setup to pierce my septum and there is a group of older woman in the next studio raising hell and having a good time (all getting the same tattoo). We were laughing wondering what the hell was going on in the there. He has the clamp on my nose and here we go, wasn’t too bad felt like pulling nose hairs out. I get up to check it out after the bit of bleeding subsided and it looks a little off. He adjust the curve of the circular barbell and it still doesn’t look right to me. He takes another look and realizes that one side was pierced a little more forward than the other and was giving the lopsided appearance. I had two choices, 1. let it settle and it would probably turn out ok or 2. have him re-pierce it.

I am OCD (kidding) and knew it would bug me so I had him fix the placement, the second time around didn’t hurt too bad and no bleeding this time.Now he has to fix the extra curve he put in the jewelry from earlier, while he is doing this I started to think, man this would suck if those clamps slipped and right at that moment the damn things slipped off the circular barbell and clamped down on my septum. He caught it as it was happening so it wasn’t too bad just caught me off guard. It gave my wife and daughter a good laugh, seems as if maybe I wasn’t suppose to have this piercing done. It was pierced at 14g I currently have it at 12g, I used a crescent to stretch to 12g and transferred a 12g seamless captive ring and it looked awesome! I cant wait to get to 10g to see how it looks. This septum piercing has been one of the most care free piercings I have ever gotten.

Working in a cooler does suck with this piercing because the cold air causes my nose to run and it is still a bit sore if I go to wipe nose. I never noticed this before but my wife always seems to cram her nose into mine while kissing and it hurts like hell when that bar presses directly against the cartilage in my nose. I try to make an effort every time to make sure head is cocked so she doesn’t catch it but she almost always seems to catch it.

Another note, dunno if this is common but it feels like there is a bit of skin above the hole on each side of my piercing. At first I thought it was crusties from the piercing healing but when I had the jewelry out I felt it and it feels almost like a mound of skin above the hole on each side. It doesn’t hurt, just hoping that it is normal and wont cause me problems down the road

Also want to note how Wal-Mart is a bunch of hypocritical double standard assholes. I work overnight as a stocker for extra money, times are tight. I come in sporting my new piercing and they tell me to take it out as it violates their no facial piercing rules. Now what the fuck! I see girls that have snake bites and nose studs and not a fucking word to them but I have to flip my septum piercing septum piercings up or go home. Tell me if you think this is fair practice or bullshit please.

I would have thought society has advanced enough that people could look and dress however they feel like without being chastised. I am a hard worker, I have gotten exceeds on all of my evaluations, not one tardy, not one no call no show. I have one of the hardest damn departments yet they single me out and bitch about piercings. They also comment about my ears and wonder if it is safe that I have large holes in lobes and that they could get caught by something and cause an injury to myself. I swear, they just look for ways to screw people over. So when you shop at Wal-Mart just remember the people that make it happen behind the scenes. It is not a glorious job but it is a job and it puts food on the table and pays the bills so I keep on taking their shit.

Jewelry

Barbells, curved barbells and captive bead rings are all common jewelery types worn in eyebrow piercings. All of these jewelry types put varying degrees of pressure on the piercing, which can cause irritation or migration over time, especially in fresh piercings. Unlike many other surface piercings, surface bars or other appropriate jewelry is not always used in the initial piercing, and the use of more commonly available body piercing jewelery often creates an unnecessarily large risk of migration or rejection in eyebrow piercings.

Placement

“The usual place to pierce the eyebrow is at a 35 degree angle from the outside corner of the eye (see illustration on front cover), however, it may be pierced anywhere along the eyebrow from directly above the eye, to the edge of the eyebrow. The eyebrow should never be pierced further in than directly above the eye, because of the presence of the three major Supra-Orbital nerves, piercing one of these nerves can cause permanent damage.

The piercing is usually done at an angle to make the ring sit better, if the piercing is done vertically it sits directly outward and has a greater likelihood of migration (see migration). There is a variation of eyebrow piercings invented by “Angel Binnie” a famous American piercer, this piercing is done horizontally just under the eyebrow so that the ring hangs downwards.”

Healing

The piercing will take approximately 6-8 weeks to heal,[[2]] some people may take longer though, the better you care for the piercing the quicker it will heal, and the less problems you will have. Eyebrow piercings can sometimes be very problematic, this is for several reasons, the skin where the piercing is done is quite thin, and contains a lot of hair follicles and doesn’t have much tissue underneath to give it strength. Eyebrows are there to prevent any dirt from falling into the eyes, and therefore the dirt gets into the wound. The piercing gets knocked around a lot when you sleep, and movement hampers the healing process.

Migration

Migration means the movement of the jewelry out of the skin, in the same way that the body forces out a foreign object like a splinter, it can cause the jewelry to migrate. The amount of skin taken by the initial piercing will decrease until the jewelry eventually grows out altogether. It doesn’t matter how well the piercing is done initially, migration can still occur. If you are really concerned about migration, it’s best to get the piercing done with a barbell.

Infection

Because of the dirt which gets into eyebrow piercings, movement, and the amount of hair follicles near the wound, eyebrow piercings are prone to infections. You must be diligent with cleaning to prevent infections, however if an infection does occur it can turn nasty very quickly. Because there is no tissue under the skin of the eyebrow, the infection can quickly turn into a large cyst. The area of the piercing can become very red and tender and there can be a large amount of discharge from the wound.

If an infection occurs, consult a medical professional. The easiest method to remove infection from the wound is the application of a hot compress. Get a clean hand towel or paper towel and hold it under very hot running water, test the heat of the compress so that you can just bear the heat on the wound. Be careful not to apply it when it’s too hot as this can result in a bad burn.

Hold the hot compress on the wound until you feel the heat dissipate altogether, remove the compress and gently bathe the wound with warm, salty water. Don’t squeeze the piercing to remove any infection, just apply very gentle pressure with a clean tissue, repeat the hot compress a couple of more times until all residue is removed from the wound.

Follow this process twice a day until the wound settles down, if this doesn’t alleviate the infection you will have to see a doctor for antibiotics. The doctor may tell you to remove the ring, don’t do this as the jewelry allows any exudate to come out of the wound, if you remove it there will be no way of allowing the pus out of the wound. If antibiotics fail to stop the infection you have no choice but to remove the ring, however in my experience this is very rare.

However, the reasons they can be more complicated are that there are so many different styles to choose from. There are different pain levels and healing difficulties with each one. There are many different areas of the body that can be pierced, some safer than others. Knowing these factors can help you to make the right decision when thinking of getting a body piercing.

This guide will serve as a source of information for some of the more well-known piercings. It will inform you of where they are located, what they look like, what kinds of jewelry are best and the expected healing times. It will help you to choose the right piercing artist, and provide instructions on how to care for your new piercing. Eventually, more piercings, including less-common ones will be added.

I had been begging my dad to let me get it done for about a month, and every time he told me the same thing. “Not until your 16!!” but I kept on at him…. Deliberately trying to make him sick of me asking, so he would let me! Finally, after pestering him all day, he was in a good mood [which is rare!] and said I could have it done if I took full responsibility for the Consequences. So, of course I said hell yes!

The next day, went to get it done…I was originally going to go to a

well-known studio, in Croydon and they charged Ј35 for the industrial…Which, I thought was an ok price for the two holes I was going to get. But, being the impatient person I am, on the way to a friend’s house, I went past a studio in Bell Green and I just couldn’t wait any longer! My legs were shaking a bit but I was willing to go through with it.

The place was very clean and as I walked in I could hear a tattoo being done, which put me more at ease because it felt like, ‘well I’m not the only one going through this kind of thing right now..’ We asked for the piercer and a man jumped up from his chair with a big smile on his face…It kind of scared me at first because he looked a little TOO eager to punch holes in my skin than I thought he should be! My mum [who was thankfully with me] told me to follow and we went into a little white room, with one of those doctor’s beds. I was a little worried because I thought it should have been covered with something and it wasn’t, but then seeing all the certificates on the wall made me feel better.

I told the guy what I wanted done, and which ear, as I sat on the bed and my mum took the seat across from me. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get it done; apparently you have to have a certain type of ear…But, luckily, he laughed and said that mine was fine and I wasn’t an elf or anything!

He took ages, talking to me and preparing everything…I watched as it was autoclaved and I felt really reassured.

He spent at least 5 minutes, marking where the holes would go and measuring the angle where the bar would be.

He let me check it as much as I wanted. We changed the position of the marking about 5 times. He was really patient and helped make sure I was sure I wanted the bar there. I asked, “Why couldn’t the top hole be closer to my scalp”? And he told me that as I have long hair, it’s likely to really irritate it when it’s healing and rub a lot. It’s much better to have the bar a little bit further away from the head.

He then cut a thin piece of plastic tube [PTFE] and told me I can’t have a metal bar for around 3 months, as it’s not flexible enough for a new Industrial piercing. The PTFE is better to sleep on than having a piece of metal in your ear until it’s healed.

I thought you were not meant to put anything but metal in a new piercing. I have learnt there are other safe, hygienic materials that can be used Navel Piercing

During this time my mum was filling out the consent form because I’m only 15, not 16 yet!

We must have been talking for about 10 minutes and I asked all the questions that had been bugging me…I think I gave him a run for his money to be honest. It’s good to know\ask everything, after all, the piercing is going to be on your body not theirs!

Here are some things I asked:

- How long will it take to heal? “About 2 months, depending on how much blood supply your body gives the area.”

- Where can I get jewellery? “You have to get an industrial bar custom made after the PTFE one. Nearly every ear length is different. Your ear will have to be measured so the bar isn’t too tight or too long and heavy”.

- Do you pierce with one long spike and carry it through to the second hole, or two separate needles? ” 2 separate needles”

- Will I get small bumps on the holes when they have healed up? “No, your likely to get bumps if your cartilage is pierced with a gun or you don’t do proper aftercare”.

“DO NOT GET PIERCED WITH A GUN - because it damages the surrounding tissue, it’s better to pierce with needles for that reason.”

- What size jewellery am I going to be able to put in it? “1.6mm”

- What’s the difference between an INDUSTRIAL and a SCAFFOLD piercing? “They are the same, you can just call it one name or the other.”

So, at this stage I had stopped shaking and I felt so excited to be able to finally get it done. I watched him get the needles out of the packet and place them on a tray. He changed his gloves again and then cleaned down my ear with this stuff that was blue and smelt like antiseptic. I liked the smell; it made me feel like the procedure was going to be hygienic!

He kept asking if I was okay and he said, “I’m going to do the top hole first”.

I tried not to smile, which was strange, because I was really pleased about getting it done so I wanted to. Also, I decided to sit on my hands, because I didn’t want to flinch, lash out or tear my ear! It helped a lot so I do actually advise it!

He clamped my ear and told me to take a deep breath. I knew what was coming next.

The first needle went through, and it felt like it was really slow…I can only describe it as a very sharp pinch. It made my ear feel quite hot, but not burning. He got the second needle and I thought. ‘ Oh no this will hurt more because my ears already been pierced once’.

Well, it did hurt more but not much more and it was bearable. Next, he sprayed the PTFE bar again with antiseptic. It was the same size as the jewellery I was eventually going to put in it. [1.6mm]

[NOTE: The bar should be about 2cm longer than your actual ear to make up for swelling].

He started to push it through and this really hurt a lot more than the actual piercing! It was bearable but it wasn’t nice because it was rubbing on an open wound as it were. It felt like my ear had been torn and something was pulling it harder. I took a deep breath and clenched my teeth a bit. My ear started to burn and felt very sore but I didn’t even care because I had done it! ALMOST!

The guy [who was really nice and made me relaxed through out the whole procedure] kept saying, “Are you okay?” and that I was being really brave.

Which I was!

He gave me a few seconds break before he put the tube through the top hole. Unluckily for me the bar slipped out of the bottom hole so I had to have it put back in again but it was over quickly enough!

I actually said to him “Is it done yet?” and he said that it was already through. I couldn’t even feel it go through, I think my ear was a bit numb by then. He screwed the stainless steel balls on the end and it was done!

He told me:

“Now you wanted this piercing, so what you are going to do for me is look after it well. Don’t use any lotions or creams on it, nothing but salt water [Saline solution] twice a day until it’s healed totally”. He also went through all the aftercare instructions with me and told me not to touch my piercing and to be careful when washing my hair.

I thanked him and had a quick look at my new improved ear! I loved it and couldn’t wait until I could wear metal jewellery in it.

I paid him Ј45! Which I thought; OH NO! More than the other place! But, for the service I got I was more than happy to pay more money.

I would recommend that place to anyone in the London area as I am very pleased with my results.

Just wanted to say, if anyone’s thinking about getting an INDUSTRIAL, be BRAVE and go for it! In my opinion it’s well worth it if you get it done properly and with a needle NOT a gun.

Just remember to look after it, no matter how annoying and time consuming it feels! I will definitely be getting more piercings in the future and I can’t wait!

I have now had this piercing for 3 months and it’s coming along wonderfully.

Although, I noticed two small red bumps around the holes at about 6 weeks. I thought it was a keloid as I’m sure a lot of people do. In my case it wasn’t, it was just a little bit of scarring. If you come across this problem, the way to TOTALLY get rid of the bumps is to:

- Buy some ‘Pure Tea Tree Oil’ (Don’t worry about diluting it, it won’t harm you). And put it on the bumps twice daily, and rub it in with cotton buds after your salt soaks. It took about a month to get rid of them. Just be patient and keep at it because it does work!

I was a little worried though. I work in a lumber mill, and I didn’t want to get a piercing done just to have it get infected or something because sawdust got inside it.

I had nothing to do that day though, so I printed off the picture to show to my piercer, and asked the friend I had been talking to, Megan, if she wanted to come along. She did. I decided that I would talk to the piercer about my worries about my job, and would hope for the best.

We got a ride down to downtown Langley, and went to a couple stores so Megan could hand out some resumes before we made our way to Paul’s Piercing.

Paul’s has been my shop of choice ever since I decided that piercing guns really were not the way to go. I have never had a problem with them. It’s extremely clean, and everyone I have talked to there have been polite and helpful. I have yet to have a problem with any of my piercings — they’ve never been infected or anything. It’s been great.

Megan and I entered the shop, and I talked to the piercer that was in, Paul. I explained my job to him, and asked if he thought it would be any trouble. He told me that there was little to no chance of sawdust being able to get inside of the piercing, so it should be no worry. Excellent. I showed him the picture I had printed off, and picked out the jewellery I wanted (16g curved barbell). I paid, and he went to the back piercing room to put the jewellery into the autoclave. When he came back out he talked to me about after care for my piercing, and then the three of us talked about some current events until my jewellery was done.

Megan and I followed him into the back room (she claimed that she wanted to hear me yell, but if that was the truth she was to be disappointed), and I sat down. Paul marked my ears, talking all the while. I was not nervous in the least as I’ve never had a piercing really hurt, and I have a pretty high pain threshold to begin with, but that man could have calmed anyone down. I don’t think that anyone can be nervous when they hear about someone meeting their wife at a nude beach. It was hilarious. Back to the piercing though. After Paul marked my ears, I checked in the mirror to see if the placement was right. I asked to have the right one moved up a bit. After that, Paul got to work. He put his gloves on, washed the area I was going to have pierced, pulled the jewellery out of the autoclave, and got the needle ready.

The first one, the right one, went in without a problem. I felt little pain when the needle went in, and none at all after a while. Paul had no problem getting the jewellery in either, even though it’s a bit of an awkward placement. The left one was a little bit more difficult. The piercing itself went fine, and, like the first, I felt little pain. Paul had a lot of difficulty getting the jewellery in though. He asked me to lie down so the angle wouldn’t be so weird. Putting that one in hurt quite a bit more than the other, but still not anything I couldn’t stand.

Once that barbell was in and the ball was screwed on Paul cleaned it once more, then had me look in the mirror. They were beautiful, I was so happy! I thanked Paul, and Megan and I left.

I have had no problem with them at all. For the first three-ish weeks I cleaned them religiously, several times a day. Since then I’ve slacked off a bit. My job has been no problem either. Actually, a week after I got my piercing done I was given a new job to do, one where there is little flying sawdust.

I could not be happier with my daith piercings. I keep getting complements about them, even from people who normally have nothing nice to say about mods. Apparently they think the same of them as I do: they’re extremely elegant looking. I can’t wait to go back to Paul’s to get another piercing. I just need to decide what to do next!
